Technical Writer Job Purpose: As a Technical Writer at Talisys, you must possess superior writing skills and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely. You will work directly with Talisys product teams, throughout the software development lifecycle, to plan, write, and maintain systems and user documentation. A successful Technical Writer with Talisys must be flexible and able to adapt to the challenges that working on products with a broad scope and scale can bring. You must have a solid understanding of department standards and help to define and enforce them.

 

Technical Writer Job Duties:

  • Defines and creates a standard set of documentation deliverables for multiple project teams that are updating/creating part of the Talisys software. Documentation consists of user guides, online help, API documentation, operational guides, configuration documentation, and release documentation.

  • Organizes information, learns complex concepts, and explains concepts and instructions clearly and concisely.

  • Uses strong interpersonal and analytical skills to elicit detailed information from business and technical subject-matter experts to develop documentation.

  • Responsible for document versioning, labeling, and publication.

  • Works as part of a department to define and maintain standards for overall company documentation.

  • Edits and enforces standards in the writing of other technical writers as well as documents produced by other departments within the company.

  • Assists in developing new templates or document types to meet evolving company needs.

Education/Experience

  • BA or BS in English, Technical Communication, or equivalent experience.

  • 2–5 years of experience in Technical Writing or in a related area.

  • Must have excellent writing skills.

  • Must be proficient in using Microsoft® Office® tools.

  • Must have an understanding of the SDLC.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight required.

  • Experience using Madcap Flare® or other online help software a plus.

EOE Physical/Environmental Characteristics:

Essential duties are performed in a general office work environment and regularly require eight (8) or more hours of sitting at a work station/desk while completing paperwork or using computers, calculators, copiers, fax machines and other business office machines and equipment. Essential duties may also involve: occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, walking, crouching, stooping and lifting up to 30 pounds to stack, store supplies or various office equipment, as directed. Compliance to security and safety procedures, including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), is required.
